Sustainable Future

Ethos

-Perran Consulting's ethos is to use new and emerging technologies to achieve sustainable living.

Why do we need this to happen?

Sustainable living is the catch phrase of the new millennium. The modern world’s use of resources is far outstripping the supply of those resources that are being used. The answer is either to live like our ancestors with the associated lack of technology and creature comforts or live sustainably using present and emerging technologies to reduce our resource use and maintain our level of comfort and health.

Unfortunately for the world this catastrophic overuse of resource has happened within a relatively short space of time. Re-balancing this resource use will take a massive global effort to be applied over a very short period of time to save the world from a scenario where the earth crashes over a runaway tipping point to an uncertain future for the current generation of children that are currently in our schools. This current global challenge is without doubt the most challenging scenario faced by humankind with dire consequences if we don’t get it right. It is a challenge that every human being faces on a collective basis over the planet. It is a challenge to be met by each and every one of us.

Shelter, Food, Water and Belonging are the basic tenants in life. Starting with these four core requirements to life Perran Consulting is dedicated to integrating present and emerging technologies that will produce a more sustainable outcome in the supply of Shelter, Food, Water and and a sense of Belonging. Living in smaller communities and family groups in concentrated living arrangements allows for a more social and supportive network that the modern first world countries world have literally left behind. The sense of isolation felt by many modern families living in sprawling suburban developments in an attempt to live in buildings that can only accommodate one family has resulted in dislocation of the family structure, breakdown of many social support structures. These sprawling suburban developments are car dependent, air conditioning dependent and heavily energy dependent  to allow for the modern family dream to be realised. In many cases this is an empty dream resulting in feelings of dislocation and dissatisfaction resulting from broken family and social network structures that are required for a fulfilling life. The result is a massive overuse of resources and loss of social structures which is having a negative effect on present civilisation through overuse of resources and a breakdown of social networks.

How can this be corrected

Leading by example buildings and developments are being created that conform to the Perran Consulting Ethos. This website illustrates houses and developments that have been built over the last fourteen years and ongoing developments using concepts and technologies that are aimed at fulfilling the ethos of sustainable living. Perran Consulting supplies consulting services for the development of concepts and projects dedicated to sustainable living.

The Change - The Cost

A well built sustainable building has often very low ongoing costs . With rebates on grid fed electricity and recycling of water the power and water bills are often dramatically reduced. With the advent of carbon tax and carbon credit systems worldwide the push towards a greener future will be enhanced with large incentives to push production into green technologies making them cheaper and more innovative. Currently there are very powerful corporate bodies within society that are running scare campaigns to stop society moving away from oil and coal dependence. Unfortunately this is slowing the natural shift towards greener technologies. Eventually these blocks to innovation will be overrun and the push to a more sustainable future will be achieved.
